On August 10th, the Bucks unveiled their first new set of jerseys from Nike, the Association and Icon editions, which mostly drew praise from around the league (even if the Harley-Davidson logo’s coloration was slightly controversial). Part of this reveal was the understanding that three more jerseys were to be unveiled before the season started, with the Classic edition being the next one up. Well folks, that day has come, as we now know what the third new Nike jersey will look like for the Milwaukee Bucks 2017-2018 season.
Just like the Association and Icon edition, these are absolutely great-looking jerseys that ensure that the Bucks new Nike jersey collection will continue to be one of the best in the league. Even the Harley-Davidson patch fits right in on the jersey, despite NBA jerseys being ad-free until this upcoming season. Remember, the home team picks which jersey they want to play in with the away team choosing a contrasting jersey (as opposed to the old, fixed home jersey-away jersey system), so only time will tell how often we see these.
During the jersey announcement, the Bucks also announced their “Return To The MECCA” (that is, where UW-Milwaukee now plays) game, which will be played against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, October 26th at 7PM on TNT. As Jon McGlocklin noted in the announcement, the final game the Bucks played at the MECCA was a loss against the Celtics, so this gives the Bucks a chance for a little revenge. Since the Bucks will be the home team and will get to choose their jerseys, it’s a near-certainty that we’ll be seeing the Classic jerseys during this game.
Remember, only eight NBA teams are getting a Classic jersey as part of their Nike collection, so even just having an official throwback jersey is already an honor for the Bucks franchise. The fact that it’s a reworked version of their original home jersey just makes it all that much sweeter, and fits in perfectly with the Return To The MECCA announcement the Bucks also made today. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bucks fans of all ages made it a priority to go out and snag one of these new Classic edition jerseys before the season kicks off.
Now that three new Bucks jerseys have been unveiled, we still have two more to come before the season kicks off. At some point in the fall (presumably before the season starts), we’ll see an “Inspired By The Athlete’s Mindset” edition, and at some point in the winter we’ll see an “Inspired By The Community” edition, which will surely include fan feedback. After seeing three of the five new Nike Bucks jerseys for this next season, it’s safe to say that the on-court product is going to look good in more ways than one.
